Chapter 46

The sun had risen in the east and turned the desert landscape into a mixture of orange, pink and red. The morning was already a hot one, and it wasn't likely to get any cooler that day. AJ Cinders made a large cloud of dust behind her as she rode the black Andolonian stallion, Revenge, at a full run. Her ebony hair was up in two separate braids, one on each side of her head. Her black hat sat firmly on her head to keep the sun out of her green eyes. She wore a man's clothes, since she had never found any use of dresses other than tripping over them. She wore brown boots with spurs, pants, a simple old shirt and her favorite brown trenchcoat. Her twin colt revolvers hung at her hip in her gunbelt, ready to be drawn any moment if need be. She also kept a knife in one of her boots and another one in a trenchcoat sleeve. One could never be too careful.

Four Corners was in her eyesight, and it didn't look like much. It looked like a cow-town, just like every other small town she had been through this side of Texas. AJ had heard in Eagle Bend and elsewhere in the territory that it was protected by seven men who were hired by a judge a while back. She had also heard the man she was looking for was headed this way. If that was true, then she could stay in Four Corners for a while. AJ was going to kill that son-of-bitch who framed her partner.

AJ rode into Four Corners, and slowed Revenge to a steady trot. He whinnied at her as she halted him in front of the hotel, and dismounted. She saw the saloon across the dusty street and decided to make that her second stop. She could use a good shot of whiskey. AJ checked her packs before she headed into the hotel. She still had that money from Roger, and staying inside after sleeping under the stars for so long didn't seem like a bad idea. She gave Revenge a pat on his neck and headed inside to get a room.
