Unfortunately, no game can exist without rules.

Technomancer is a free-form/interactive storytelling role-playing game. In other words, the players can largely moderate their own actions, provided their actions do not interfere with those of other players, and the designated moderators of player-player interaction are players themselves. In this manner, the story is essentially told by the characters around which it focuses.

If you wish to join, look over the web site and the message boards, then head over to the Join section. You will be required to fill out a form detailing your character, and will then need to sign up for the message board. Your message board profile and avatar must reflect your character rather than your real-life self; for all intents and purposes, you are your character when on the message board, with the exception of out-of-character posts.

This game is generally directed at an older teen and above audience, though your character can be of any age. As such, violence and profanity is allowed, provided it advances the story, but keep explicit sexual acts to a minimum. Sex can be handled in a tasteful manner. Should you possess this level of maturity, feel free to join. I could honestly care less what your real-life age is, provided you are a mature, skilled writer; maturity cannot be measured in years alone. In addition, several general posting rules apply; please try to keep all posts in the third-person past tense to promote a flowing story, and do not flame or insult other players. We are all here to have a good time. Try to post at least a few times a week, and let someone know if you will not be posting for an extended period of time.

Technomancer takes inspiration from science fiction, fantasy, cyberpunk, and anime; keep this in mind when making your posts, and stick to the game concept. Any character that whips out a broadsword or starts to chant an arcane spell of yore is likely to be “inadvertently” slain by a moderator, as are characters who blow away half of the Ark with their space cruiser. All characters must begin at a basic level of skill and progress as they play. Skills are not officially kept track of, as characters should simply reflect their experience in their posts as they progress. Keep in mind that other players and moderators are watching you, and will not allow you to perform feats far above your level of skill. Even having moderator status does not allow you to do such things; you must progress at the same rate as any other player, for you are simply a player with the ability to resolve conflicts. Though Technomancer is generally more realistic than most anime, Japanese animation influences this game nonetheless; therefore, while a character may not produce a hammer out of thin air or survive a fall from the top of the Ark, they can make nearly any profession extremely badass. Gun-toting teachers and maniacal technomantic cubicle slaves are most certainly allowed.

As player moderation could easily get out of hand, players are only allowed to determine the outcome of their own actions and of actions taken by non-player characters unless they make a joint post with another player, which is allowed and encouraged. To moderate interactions between players, keep the story flowing, and simply introduce storylines and non-player characters, certain players will be granted Executive status. Execs are essentially moderators of one board, and have one official duty: to resolve conflicts and actions taken between two players. If they wish to do so, they can create storylines independent of their own character, though they must also play their character to retain their status. Similarly, Senior Executives serve the same purpose, but oversee multiple boards, and the Director of the game can moderate anywhere he pleases. Players and moderators alike must follow the same basic set of rules, however, and any who step beyond their bounds will be dealt with accordingly. Moderation must be fair; though players moderate themselves, they cannot do so as if their characters were gods. To my knowledge, it is impossible to escape fifty heavily-armed men in a narrow corridor. Though it is not my intention to kill any character, characters can die if circumstances are wholly against their survival. Players may create another character with approximately half of the skill and equipment of their slain character. In addition, it is requested that those who wish to leave the game kill their characters or devise a plausible excuse for their in-game absence. Moderating cannot be biased toward one character or another; moderators especially must be fair in their judgment. It is requested that players do not argue with moderators, and take all complaints directly to the Director.

Remember: Do not flame other players. No pornography. Listen to the Executives. There is always someone stronger than your character. And have fun.

If for some reason you do not wish to play and want simply to do administrative things that I may not have time for, contact me. I may be able to work you in as a non-player staff member. Trust me...considering how busy I am, these kinds of people are always more than welcome.
