  This room contains books, books, and more books.  Two bookshelves stand
against the walls.  Additional bookcases fill the room with even more
books.  An old librarian shushes you as you walk by.  
A plainly dressed woman with thick glasses is busy sorting books here.

As you reach for another book to verify something . . . 

You feel a sudden jerk, and your surroundings blur.

The Torture Chamber
  Ack!  You've wound up in the Torture Chamber!  You are surely doomed
now... For there is no escape.  And with a pale face and a beating heart, you
watch as the big, burly jailer grab you and begin to take you towards one of
his sickening devices.  
     A mouldering corpse is here.  It is black and covered with maggots. [excellent]
An evil looking wraith hovers threateningly.

Kiratha arrives from a puff of smoke.

You land with a *thud* on a table filled with objects.  

A hard piece of something pokes you in the thigh, and papers and books go everywhere.

Kiratha picks herself up.

As you collect yourself, you realize that you are in a terrifying room filled with smoke and screaming.

The smoke prevents you from seeing the source of the screaming, but you do see a tall figure before you.

Kiratha reaches down to her waist to grab her sword.

It is a large wraith.  He appears to be the one who has brought you here.

Kiratha wields her sword in front of her, in a ready position.

He speaks to you in a hoarse whisper.

'Greetings mortal' the wraith says.  'I am Agragag, and YOU will obey me.'

Kiratha frowns.

Agragag is about 7 feet tall, made of a ghostly smoky substance with 
eyes like coals of fire

Kiratha says 'I do not follow the commands of the undead.'

Kiratha says 'tell me where I am before I run you through with my blade.'

Agragag ignores you and keeps talking

Agragag says 'Let us discuss your mission.'

Agragag says 'There is a certain item that I require.  You will retrieve it for me.'

Kiratha says 'and what of my renumeration?'

Agragag raises his voice to say 'Your renumeration will be your miserable life.'

Kiratha says 'would this in anyway affect my standing on the protection of the woods?'

Kiratha looks at the mouldering corpse.

Kiratha says 'an unfortunate, unskilled peasant.'

Agragag says 'observe:'

Agragag pauses, and touches the corpse while uttering an incantation in a strange language.

The corpse explodes with fire, showering you with burning, rotted flesh.

Kiratha gingerly wipes the blood from her mail.

Kiratha says 'impressive.'

Agragag says 'if that were to happen to you, your ability to protect the forest would be . . . diminished.'

Kiratha says 'i have an question, would it require you to touch me before ... that happens?'

Agragag says 'i do not discuss my powers with those who still live.  I discuss with them what they can do for me!'

Kiratha says 'as you do.'

Agragag says 'the item that i require is a small dagger.  You will know it by the green rune on the hilt, like this'

Agragag draws a green symbol in the air with his finger: $

Kiratha says 'an intricate rune'

Agragag says 'You will find it somewhere in the eastern hills of Emyn Muil.'

Kiratha commits the rune to memory.

Kiratha sheaths her sword.

Agragag says 'Once you have the dagger, use this scroll to notify me.'

Agragag gives A runed scroll of notify to Kiratha.


Kiratha examines the scroll intently

Agragag says 'If you return with the dagger, you will be . . . rewarded.'

There is something ominous about his tone.



Kiratha says 'very well. when am i to begin?'

Agragag says 'But, if you return without it, your doom will be terrible indeed.'

Agragag says 'You have one week, if you fail to return before then, your life is over.'

Agragag says 'now GO!'

Kiratha says 'your terms are demanding, but very well.'

Kiratha vanishes!

Gambling Room (Sea of Nurnen)
  A huge table dominates this room and is surrounded by many chairs. 
Several men sit around the table enjoying a game of cards.  A cell can be
seen to the south, while the hallway lies to the west.

Stuck in your cloak is a small piece of crystal

Kiratha removes the crystal from her cloak.

Kiratha examines the crystal.

Kiratha stands up.

Kiratha casts the spell of identify on the crstal.

Kiratha's hands briefly glow magically!
Kiratha utters the words, 'uoculoihuyl'.

you don't recognize it.  it is made of quartz

the identify tells you that it is magical, but the spell is not one that you recognize or know how to use

Kiratha ponders the crystal.

Kiratha thinks.

Kiratha says 'perhaps a wizard will know what to do with this crystal.'

Kiratha asks the gambler,

Kiratha says 'where will i find a wizard around here, or one skilled in the lore of magical objects?'

the gambler is a little hesitant to talk to you after the mode of your arrival, but he responds

a gambler says 'i don't know any wizards, i only know cards.'

Kiratha says 'what about one who is learned. or one who has studied?'

the other gambler says there are wise men in Dol Amroth, wise enough not to play at cards with me.  they might know

Kiratha says 'i shall head there presently.'

a gambler turns back to his game.

Kiratha gives a gambler some money.


Kiratha says 'thats for your help.'

A gambler thanks Kiratha heartily.

the first gambler wishes that he had been more helpful now.


Kiratha says 'indeed. i reward those who help me.'

Kiratha stands up, checking her sword.

  You are standing beneath the tower.  An extremely well-travelled road
leads off towards the east, expanding into the Merchant's Quarter.  To
the south you see the great East*West Road.

East*West Crossroads (Minas Morgul)
  This is where the various traders of Middle-earth gathered in ancient
times.  Now they gather in Market Square to sell their goods to any travel
willing to spend thier money.  Below the tower, and north of the Guild
Square, you see the enormous East*West road expand in all its glory, for
this is a beginning -- an outlet to Middle-earth.  Please read the note
'look note'.

Crossroads East*West (Minas Morgul)
  As the street nears the squares in the middle of Minas Morgul the crush
seems to get worse.  Off to one side of the road a pair of urchins seem to
be fighting over a small creature that looks like it may have been run over
by a cart.  Do you think they want to eat it or rescue it?

Crossroads East*West (Minas Morgul)
  You find it hard work trying to force your way through the crowds of
people on the city's main through road.  What with visitors making their way
east into the center and adventurous types heading west into the wilds, it's
amazing anybody gets anywhere.

  Standing inside the city it amazes you how busy it is.  Day or night
there is always somebody wanting to leave or enter.  Only in times of war
are the huge gates shut, and then nobody comes or goes without an arrow to
lead their way.

  You are standing on the outskirts of Minas Morgul, on the outside of the
west gate leading into town.  Now you are ready to travel the dangerous

Morgul Vale (Anduin River)
  You stand in the captured province of Ithilien, now firmly under the
control of Sauron and his Nazgul servants.  Already the land is showing
signs of their presence, with piles of slag and debris lining the vale
edges.  The desolation will surely continue until all of Middle-Earth is
under their rule.  A road leads west into the Ithilien Plains and to the
east is the Great Gate of Minas Morgul.

  Two great roads cross here, the Ithil Road which leads from Minas
Morgul to the banks of the Anduin and the Harad Road which leads down over
the Poros into the lands of the Haradrim.  The road to the south also leads

  You stand in the captured province of Ithilien, now firmly under the

White Bridge (Anduin River)
  A magnificent white bridge marks the crossing of the Andiun from
Ithilien into the lands of Gondor.  A line of Forts protects Minas Tirith,
so it is only possible to follow the great river.  You can head upstream
into the Anduin Vales or down-stream towards the Pelargir crossing.

Lower Anduin (Anduin River)
  The mighty Anduin is now nearing its final approach to the great Bay of
Belfaras, where its merges with the great sea.  The current is strong and
swift, is if the river is anxious to be on its way.  The east bank is line
by Gondorian forts stretching from Minas Tirith, and the west bank shows
the ruining remains of Osgiliath.  The river continues north, south, and
west.

  High trees loom over the river bank, overshadowing the rocky ground. The
sound of the raging river seems to be muffled by the dense forest. A rocky

north opens up to a road leading back to the shoreline.

  You are travelling along a road that leads to the Palace of Dol Amroth. 
The road is clean, and well maintained.  Stone gutters line the sides of
the stone road to prevent flooding.  To the north you can see the town

The Palace Road (Dol Amroth)
  You are standing on the palace road right before the palace gates.  The
palace itself is not quite as tall as it is large.  It appears to be a
single story building that just goes on for what looks like forever.  The
palace is built upon a large outcropping of rock that makes up the southern
cliff.  The walls seem to have been hewn from a single piece of stone, and
the joints between blocks are almost invisible.  North will take you back
to the center of town, while a gate to the south blocks your entrance to
the palace.

  You are standing just inside the palace gates.  This gatehouse serves as
the headquarters for the Dol Amroth city guard.  The walls of the palace
are polished limestone, and the floors are made of polished granite.  The

he seems more confident now that he sees the soldier escorting you.

Kiratha says 'there is this particular crystal, i am curious as to know its magical property, and why is it on my person.'

Kiratha gives An oddly shaped bit of crystal to the city accountant.

the city accountant examines the crystal.

the city accountant says 'as to why it is on your person, i have no idea.'

Kiratha impatiently waves for him to go on.

Kiratha looks at the city accountant.

Kiratha says 'and what of its magical properties'

Kiratha says 'or were you planning to walk off with my crystal?'

the city accountant says 'This is a very old bit of rock, it appears to be some sort of key.'

Kiratha says 'a key. what kind of key?'

  You are standing on the palace road right before the palace gates.  The
palace itself is not quite as tall as it is large.  It appears to be a
single story building that just goes on for what looks like forever.  The
palace is built upon a large outcropping of rock that makes up the southern
cliff.  The walls seem to have been hewn from a single piece of stone, and
the joints between blocks are almost invisible.  North will take you back
to the center of town, while a gate to the south blocks your entrance to
the palace.

  The mighty Anduin is now nearing its final approach to the great Bay of
Belfaras, where its merges with the great sea.  The current is strong and
swift, is if the river is anxious to be on its way.  The east bank is line
by Gondorian forts stretching from Minas Tirith, and the west bank shows
the ruining remains of Osgiliath.  The river continues north, south, and
west.

  A magnificent white bridge marks the crossing of the Andiun from
Ithilien into the lands of Gondor.  A line of Forts protects Minas Tirith,
so it is only possible to follow the great river.  You can head upstream

  The Anduin splits for a few miles as it sweeps round Cair Andros, a
large fortified island in the middle of the river.  As you pass by a number
of the Gondorian Archers here let fly with an arrow or two!  Lucky for you
the Anduin is so swift here.  All around foam and small whirlpools are
through together turning the river into swift rapids.  The river continues
north and south.  It is possible to land on Cair Andros to the west.

  The river continues to flow swiftly, passing a forest on the Anorien
side and through dark rolling hills on the Ithilien bank.  The only sounds
are the noise of the thundering current and the occasional trumpet blast
from the south.  To the north a high waterfall is becoming visible, the
Fall of Rauros.  The river course runs north and south, while to the west
lies Ered Nimrais.

  The river continues to flow swiftly, merging with the flow of the
Entwash to the west.  Dark rolling hills pass by on the Ithilien bank.  The
only sounds are the noise of the thundering current and the occasional
trumpet blast from the south.  To the north a high waterfall has become
visible, the Fall of Rauros.  The river continues to the north and south,
and west into the Entwash.  To the east a road leads to the Dead Marshes.

  The mighty roar of the Falls of Rauros thunders all around you.  The
splash and foam from the backwash nearly swamps your little boat.  As you
become more accustomed to the spray and noise of the fall, you begin to see
a canal with a lock system on the east bank.  It seems to be in good enough
repair to take you easily through the thunderous falls.  A small footpath
leading to a wide forest lies north of here.

The Eastern Forest (Emyn Muil) 
  The forest casts an eerie glow upon the surroundings.  The green trees
here prevent much sunlight from shining through them.  As a result, very
little grass grows at the base of most of the tress.  A clearing can be
seen to the north, while the forest continues west.  
     A body lies here with a dagger in its chest. [excellent]

Kiratha looks around

There is a dagger in his chest, and both his hands are wrapped around the hilt.

Kiratha checks for tracks on the forest floor.

Kiratha searches the area for tracks and footprints.

you see regular forest tracks, and the man's tracks

the man's tracks are odd.  it looks like he was staggering and very weak.

yet the body looks healthy, except for the dagger in its chest

Kiratha is irked by the tracks.

Kiratha examines the body carefully.

Kiratha searches the body.

Kiratha gets A journal from A corpse.

Kiratha pries his stony hands away from the dagger and removes it from his body.

Kiratha fingers the dagger, and examines it.

the daggers hilt is ruby, with a green symbol: $

the blade is black onyx stone, now covered in his blood.

Kiratha examines the journal from the body.

you page through the journal, reading bits here and there:

(journal) While I possess the dagger I am safe, but he never leaves me alone.  He hates the dagger, yet he is drawn to it.

(journal) He slays those around me, I cannot protect them.  I flee to save them, or they drive me away, and always he follows.

Kiratha looks at the dagger and reads on.

In the diagram the blade is labeled power, the hilt is labeled bane.

(journal) He would have me destroy the dagger in his hatred of it, but destroying the object of his desire would drive him insane.  He would slay me in his anger.

(journal) There is power in the blade to destroy him, yet while the hilt is there he will never approach.  There is no solution.

the journal entries have become more and more scrawled, this last entry is almost impossible to read.

(journal) Doom, doom take us both but he will not go.  I must break it but it is one.  I must break us before we are one.

Kiratha remembers the crystal and the scribe's words.

Kiratha gets the crystal from her bag.

Kiratha examines the dagger for a place to put the crystal.

you see a slot between the blade and the hilt, shaped in the same odd manner as the crystal

Kiratha inserts the crystal into the slot at the joint between the two.

the crystal slides in with a click, and the blade slides out and falls to the forest floor

Kiratha looks down.

Kiratha picks up the blade.


Kiratha gets An onyx dagger blade.

Kiratha sprinkles some powder on the body.

Kiratha says 'the body will decay faster, and return itself to the earth.'

Kiratha ponders the blade.

Kiratha examines the hilt.

Kiratha tucks the blade away in her tunic.

Kiratha examines the scroll.

it has strange writing that you can read but do not understand

Kiratha recites the scroll slowly.

you hear Agragag's voice, 'Do you have the dagger?'

Kiratha says 'yes i do.'

the voice says Excellent!

A Barrage of Lava (Mount Doom)
  The lava leaps out of the mountain, attacking everything around it.  No
part of the mountain for a large radius around the source is uncovered. 
Survival at this point seems bleak.  Nothing escapes the wrath of the Fire
Mountain.  
     Red hot lava covers the ground. [F][excellent]
[......F...S..] The fire of Mount Doom leaps forth and surrounds you.

Kiratha arrives from a puff of smoke.

Agragag arrives from a puff of smoke.

Agragag says 'I sense it's presence.  Well done, your "reward" is near.'

Kiratha says 'yes, i have what you want.'

Agragag is acting oddly, edging closer to you, then jumping back again, but always staying several yards away from you.

Agragag says 'Th-T-Throw it into the lava.'

Kiratha says 'dont you want it?'

Kiratha takes the blade out of her tunic.

Agragag says 'yeeeees . . i mean, NO, throw it into the lava!'

Kiratha says 'wouldnt it be better if you had it?'

Agragag he sees the blade, and is mesmerized

Agragag he reaches for it, but jumps back as if burned

Kiratha dangles it at the lava.

Agragag says 'they were eternally bound *still dazed*'

Kiratha says 'are you suuuuuuure you dont want it?'

Agragag seems to snap out of it, and says 'give me the blade!'

Kiratha brings the blade closer to agragag.

Agragag reaches out for it, but cannot get close enough to take it

Kiratha deftly holds the hilt of the dagger in her other hand.

Kiratha puts some things in something.

Kiratha wields An onyx dagger blade.

Kiratha wields A ruby hilt with a green rune in her off-hand.

Kiratha says 'what about the hilt? dont you want it all?'

Agragag seems to be angered by your actions, he screams 'I MUST HAVE IT, give it to meeeee!'

Agragag pauses to consider.

Kiratha brandishes the hilt at agragag.

Agragag winces, but does not retreat from the hilt.

Agragag says 'you may keep the hilt, as your reward.  it is very valuable you know.'

Kiratha considers, then brandishes the blade at agragag.

Agragag seems fascinated by the blade, his eyes keep flickering back to it as he speaks

Kiratha pretends to drop the blade into the lava, but instead drops the scroll, which burns.

Agragag lunges at the blade as though to dive in after it, but recovers when he sees that it is only the scroll

Kiratha says 'ha, made you lunge.'

Agragag gets control of himself, and steps back from you farther.

Agragag says 'you will give me the blade.  you have no other choice.'

Kiratha pretends to toss the blade off the mountain, but instead tosses the journal.

Agragag ignores the gesture and says 'if you do not, you will never rest, i will torment you till the end of your days.'

Kiratha circles around till the wraith is between the lava and herself.

Agragag says 'the blade is mine, by right!'

Kiratha hefts the blade and swift as a knife, throws it with force directly at the Agragag.

as the blade nears him, its affect on him becomes stronger and his eyes almost seem to glaze

instead of trying to dodge it, he reaches for it, and it nicks his hand before sticking in his chest.

Kiratha draws her swords with the quickness borne of her skill.

for a moment, nothing happens, then blood and fire begins to ooze out around the blade.

Kiratha switches swords.

Agragag covers the blade with his hands, and says with a gurgle 'it is mine'

Kiratha stands back, still on guard.

the oozing of blood and fire becomes a flood coming out around his hands

The tear in the wraith's essence grows longer and deeper, until in a flash of light, he is gone.

as the last fires of agragag's doom burn out, you hear a slight *poof* from your bag.

Kiratha looks into her bag.

where the hilt was, there is only a pile of dust

Kiratha shakes the dust out of her bag.

Kiratha says 'well, that's that.'

as the dust scatters and blows away, the bit of crystal falls to the ground

Kiratha picks up the crystal, and tucks it away in her bag.

Kiratha walks back down the mountain.
