“tomorrow will run faster”
The truth behind this
phrase is so unbelievably real and yet so few actually realize it. Many
people think they can out run time and evade the events that are supposed
to happen but soon they find out how wrong they were. Some even believe
that things will always be the same no matter how much times passes but we
know this is not true either. No matter how hard you try to live in the
moment and keep things they way they are forever, the one thing that will
keep on going that you can not stop is time and its going to pass
regardless of your intentions. With Gatsby, we know he was truly in love
with Daisy 5 years previous to when the story takes place and for him
it’s like nothing is different. Even after he left and came back he
still believed that Daisy would be as in love with him
as he was with her but apparently this was not so because she was married
to someone else now and she couldn’t even truthfully say that she
wasn’t in love with Tom too. So even though Gatsby tried as hard as he
could to recapture the moment that he and Daisy had once shared, it proved
impossible because too much time had passed and too many things had
changed between them and around them. Another connection that could be
made is one between Gatsby and his father Mr. Gatz. For these two, life
seemed to be a never ending passage of time that would keep them from
crossing each other’s paths after Gatsby’s departure. Perhaps they
assumed they could put their relationship on hold and could put off their
reuniting but time did not die quit ticking for them. The hand kept
spinning ruthlessly around the clock until days and hours were the same
for the two. They had many chances to make amends and yet they never did.
Soon their last chance expired and now there would never be another one
for either of them. As time went on Gatsby’s life eventually concluded
and Mr. Gatz is left to wonder why they had wasted it so stubbornly.
