Mystery (fiction) |
I want to believe that Gatsby
did not hit Myrtle because it's not in his nature. There are so
many obvious reasons as to why Daisy would want to hit and kill
Myrtle. Myrtle is Tom's mistress. How does that make Daisy
feel? Heart broken? Probably not. She loves Gatsby
right?
"What are you thinking about old sport?" Suddenly I realize that Gatsby has been standing in the doorway the whole time. Had I been talking to myself? "Oh nothing important." I replied knowing for sure he would interrogate me more. "You look a little confused. Tell your old friend Gatsby what's going on." I just couldn't bring myself to ask him. I was sure he would get offended. Suddenly, in my mind, I realized that Gatsby was my friend, and that I trusted him. I knew for sure that he didn't really hit Myrtle. I knew that Daisy did it, but being the gentleman that Gatsby was, he was going to take the blame for it. I was questioning in my mind reasons why Gatsby would want to kill Myrtle in the first place. They have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I suddenly realized that it had to have been Daisy. She has a reason for killing Myrtle: she's Tom's mistress, of course Daisy would want her dead. But it's so ironic that Daisy would want Tom's mistress dead when she herself is cheating. Marjorie Ennenbach |
