Nick sees East Egg as fake and only a dream.  Daisy and Tom are part of the East, and part of what Nick sees as fake.  They both pretend to be in love with one another and pretend to have a healthy marriage when they clearly don't.  Both are cheating on each other, and both seem to know about it.  Daisy puts on a cover at the dinner party that Nick attends.  She is busy talking about anything to divert attention from the tension that is in the air between her and Tom.  They use their money to create a false happiness and try to fix all their problems.
