Towns |
The towns past the Ohio river are vast, they are huge, they are full of life, but they are boring. Nick describes the biggest, the most spectacular looking towns as dull, nothing to do. This was obviously his reason to come to the east, because he wanted a more exciting life than what he had in the west. But in the east he only found trouble and despair, though we do not know exactly what happened to him in the time that he spent in the west, but it cannot have been much worse than the events that occurred in the east. So though the west is boring it is safer than the west, but maybe that is why it is boring, because in the east it is dangerous and that causes it to be exciting. |
