Gatsby's dream has died, and he now sees no point in fixing things that are not a part of the real him anymore anyway. the car was one of the symbols of his dream; it was flashy, it was fast, and it needed to be repaired. It had been through years of damage, much like how Gatsby had been through years of emotional damage while he tried to live out his dream. Gatsby pretended to live a flashy, fast life, yet he still needed to be helped/ When his dream had died, the very person he had created died. He never knew the real James Gatz, the man who he truly was, and so he was left dead inside. He didn't know how to feel. Now that he must be the real person he originated as, he didn't know what to do and just accepted the fact that he would be approaching his death.
