Phone calls

Pg. 169 “At two o’ clock Gatsby put on his bathing suit and left word with the butler that if anyone phoned word was to be brought to him at the pool.”

Pg. 169 “No telephone message arrived but the butler went without sleep and waited until four o’ clock-until long after there was anyone to give it to if it came.”

-Gatsby wasn’t used to nobody calling, he always received phone calls.

For example on pg. 58, “Philadelphia wants you on the phone sir.”

In addition, on pg. 99 “They stood by the side examining it I was going to ask to see the rubies when the phone rang and Gatsby took up the receiver.  ‘Yes…well, I can’t talk now…I can’t talk now, old sport…I said a small town…He must know what a small town is…Well, if Detroit is his idea of a small town…”
