We Remember As we see Gatsby walk through the yellowing trees, We remember Jesus; And His Agony in the Garden. As we see Gatsby struggle with the mattress, We remember Jesus; And His struggling with that large cross. As we see the chauffeur offer to help Gatsby, We remember Simon; And his compassion to carry the cross. As we see Gatsby in his bathing suit, We remember Jesus; And the stripping of His purple robes. As we see Gatsby looking towards the sky, We remember Jesus; And Him looking skyward in despair. As we hear the shots fired, We remember Jesus; And the eruption as He breathed last. When we see no one has called Gatsby, We remember Jesus; And His feelings of abandonment. When we see Nick running up the steps, We remember Peter; And him running towards the empty tomb. When we see Gatsby’s poorly attended funeral, We remember Joseph of Arimathea; And his tender care with Christ’s body. We remember. We remember.
