Green
Light
- In a stoplight green means to go.
This is exactly what Gatsby
does. He doesn't just sit around and wait for Daisy to leave
Tom. He even confronts Tom, informing him that Daisy doesn't love him
(p137). Even though it didn't go over too well and actually
pushed Daisy and Tom together, it took a lot of guts on Gatsby's
part. That's just the kind of person that he was.
- Light also plays a big part in Daisy. She is not only the
light of Gatsby's life, but some of her possessions are described as
being full of light. "...a bright rosy-colored space,...The
windows were ajar and gleaming white against the fresh grass outside
that seemed to grow a little way into the house...The frosted wedding
cake of a ceiling...(p12)" that was just a description of her
house.
- Gatsby's parties were always full of light. His house was always
stocked with "enough colored lights to make a Christmas tree of
Gatsby's enormous garden." (p44) This was very important because
this was how he was to attract Daisy. He also knew where Daisy lived,
by the light by her house.
