Everyone suspects himself of at least one of the cardinal virtues, and this is mine: I am one of the few honest people I know. (p.64)

Nick cannot trust anyone.

The whole world is fake around him, and only he is reality.

He is thrown into a soap opera-like world, full of lies and deception.

And he is the only one he can trust.

Don't share a secret, or someone will tell.

Lies only lead to death and hurt.

Those only lead to hatred.

He is caught between his own desires and what must be.

He is stuck in this world and finds himself trapped in a cage.

Society is a cruel place in which certain people don't belong.

Nick is the onlooker.

He observes and sees the very opposite of what the world should be like,

And it's tearing him apart.
