Think of
a mentor as a Cheerleader, using these six steps:
-
Build a personal rapport with the new member.
-
Discuss the new member’s needs and expectations.
-
Translate the new member’s needs into Toastmasters
programs — CTM, ATM, etc.
-
Set specific goals and objectives for the new member (Be
realistic!)
-
Discuss the effort and commitment needed to meet these goals.
(Again, be realistic!)
-
Monitor the new member’s performance and progress.
(You may even have to supplement the evaluations the new
member receives at the club meeting with a personal evaluation.)
