BILLY HAMILTON
Billy Hamilton was the greatest base-stealer the Phillies have ever had and one of the greatest the game has ever seen. His 937 stolen bases put him behind only Rickey Henderson and Lou Brock. Hamilton was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1961. He played in what may have been the best outfield of all time, side by side with future Hall-of-Famers Ed Delahanty and Sam Thompson. Hamilton's career batting average of .344 ties him with Ted Williams and Tris Speaker for 6th on the all-time list. In 1894, he scored 192 runs, which is still the most ever. Billy Hamilton coached after his playing days were over, invested well, and retired in Maryland until his death in 1940.
