Jim Thome signed a contract in December that makes him the highest-paid player in Phillies' history. Thome, who has 334 career homers, including 52 last season, will be paid an average of 14.1 million dollars a year. He is also expected to bring a positive influence to the clubhouse as the Phillies try to move to the top of the N-L East.
