How do I graduate?
Once you have completed a specified set coursework, you are awarded a degree or certificate by UAS. This process is called "Graduation." The ceremony in which you are awarded your degree is called "Commencement." You need not attend the commencement ceremony to receive your degree. However, you must apply for graduation in order to be awarded any degree or certificate.
To apply for graduation:1. Visit with your advisor to ensure that you have completed all necessary coursework for your degree or certificate. You should request a formal degree audit at least two semesters prior to graduation (forms available at the front counter or from the Distance Education Office).
2. Complete and return the application for graduation. Applications are available from the UAS-Sitka Admissions and Records Office at the front counter, or from the Distance Education Office (1-800-478-6653, ext. 757). The application must be returned to the Sitka Campus Admissions and Records Office by the specified graduation application deadline (dates vary according to semester).
3. Submit $25 application fee.
4. If your cumulative grade point average is higher than 3.5, you may graduate with honors.
3.5 = cum laude
3.8 = magna cum laude
4.0 = summa cum laude.5. Approximately two months before Commencement, you will be contacted by the commencement coordinator. At this time, you will have the option of walking in the Commencement ceremony, or receiving your degree or certificate by mail.
6. If you have any questions regarding graduation or Commencement, please contact Tim Schroeder at (907) 747-7703, or 1-800-478-6653.
