Basic volunteer requirements are listed for each agency. When you find an opportunity that you like just contact the agency directly. Contact names are provided for each organization. Below is a general index of some types of volunteer activities and where you can perform those tasks.     Volunteer activities include clerical tasks, committee work in education and entertainment, raptor rehabilitation, raptor feeding, cleaning mews, etc., and husbandry/outside work. Youth aged 12 and older may volunteer, but you must be 18 to handle the raptors. Hours vary and training is provided.

    Volunteers are needed to be mentors to provide a positive role model and meet one on one with a selected student 1 hour per week during the school year. Commitment to the well being of youth is necessary. Training and orientation is provided.

    HIGH SCHOOL 21st CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER

    Beginning with the 2000-2001 school year and continuing for the next three years, volunteers are encouraged to participate in a new grant program at both Sitka High and Pacific High School. (Volunteers are needed in the following programs: after school tutoring; Native cultural clubs and activities; music, drama and art clubs; Teen Center events; service learning projects; mentoring; recreation clubs and activities; and technology clubs. In addition to these programs, we will also offer supplemental high school courses for credit, free childcare for teen parents, on-the-job vocational training, additional guidance counselors, a Tribal government course for credit, and a $10,000 scholarship fund for high school students who take college courses during high school.

    Volunteers are required to work positively and patiently with youths and to be outdoors frequently. Opportunities to act as sports coaches and to help with SCORE (Summer Camping Outdoor Rec.) are available. Sportsmanship, fair play, and confidence are promoted.
