The Life Of Andrew Jackson


A general in the War of 1812, General Andrew Jackson, "Old Hickory" became the seventh President of the United States in 1828. He lives at the Hermitage in Nashville, Tennessee. He died in June 1845.
Early Life

Jackson was born in the backwoods of South Carolina and he was the son of poor Scot-Irish immigrants. Starting out as a lawyer, he completed his legal studies at the age of 20. However, more favorable of military life, he signed up for the the War of 1812, offering to invade Canada and Florida. Fighting for the War of 1812, he won the Battle at New Orleans and earned the nickname of "Old Hickory". Elected by the people in 1824, he was a candidate for the Presidency. However, due to the "corrupt bargain" between Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams, Jackson lost the election to Adams with a total of 7 state votes to Adam's 13. In the year of 1828, Jackson finally won the Presidency and he became the 7th President of the United States.
Rachel Robards was the wife of Andrew Jackson. Married in 1791, they had honestly believed that they were legally married. However, Rachel's husband, Lewis Robards, didn't give her a legitimate divorce. Thus, Rachel and Andrew's marriage was a fake. Knowing that their marriage is a fake during the year fo his presidency, he immediately remarried Rachel Robards. However, it was too late. Rumors have already started to spread about Rachel's illegal marriage and the shame was part of the reason why she died. Andrew Jackson, who spent many accounts defending his wife's honor ,was rumored to be a violent and brutal man.
One of Andrew Jackson's major accomplishments is closing down the Bank of United States. Viewing the Bank as a threat to the U.S government, he decided to reject the recharter for the Bank of U.S. Jackson believed that Nicholas Biddle, the owner of the Bank, was a threat to the government because he controlled the government's money since most of hte government funds are stored in the Bank of U.S. Thus, Jackson devised a plan to uproot the Bank of U.S and he did in the year 1836.The Second Bank of United States was closed down.
