Culture
The traditional culture of Korea has been developed on the basis of two factors, i.e., the economic foundation of farming and the religious backgrounds of Buddhism and Confucianism, the two pillars around which the culture is woven. The deity as shown in the New Year customs, art, and traditional games and the harmony seen in the coexistence among diverse religions are the characteristics of Korean culture.
The farming culture of Korea was largely composed of rice farming, which required a quantity of labor force during a short period in the season of rice planting or harvesting. As a result, traditional New Year customs, village communities, and a cooperative spirit have been all derived from that culture.
