![]() ![]() TNR + is a groundbreaking partnership between a wildlife welfare organization, Protect R Wildlife (PRW), and a feral cat organization, Feral Cat Alliance of Los Angeles (FCA). These two groups decided it was in the best interest of all the animals to put aside differences that in the past have divided wildlife and feral cat groups.
It
was proposed
that feral
cats be
included with
the other
backyard
wildlife
under the
PRW's
umbrella of
protection
and active
advocacy.
Of course,
PRW needed to
raise and
discuss the
usual issues
about feral
cats and the
amount of
harm they
might do to
other
wildlife and
the
environment.
Because of
the win-win
attitude from
both groups
since the
beginning,
and after
listening to
the needs of
both groups,
TNR
+ was
created as a
solution that
will benefit
all of our
backyard
wildlife,
even the new
"wild
animal",
the feral
cat.
PRW's board
gave its
overwhelming
support of
promoting
Trap/Neuter/Return
as an act of
kindness for
feral cats,
and managing
feral cat
colonies in a
way that
benefits
surrounding
wildlife.
Protect
R Wildlife
and
Feral
Cat Alliance
see
that
advocates of
wildlife and
feral cats
have many
overlapping
interests in
protecting
our backyard
wildlife.
We plan to
multiply our
separate
efforts by
joining
forces.
We now have
unique
opportunities
to work
together in
new powerful
ways.
WHO
IS TNR +?
It
is every
animal
welfare group
and caring
individual
that by
becoming a
member of TNR
+
votes for
people
practicing
win-win
solutions,
respecting
all the
backyard
wildlife, and
for groups
working
together for
the sake of
the innocent
animals who
need their
collective
voice.

FCA'S
mission
statement:
"We
envision a
time in Los
Angeles
county when
all cats are
cared for,
all kittens
and
domesticated
cats are in
loving homes
and
there is a
healthy, but
declining,
sterilized
feral cat
population.
The feral cat
colonies that
do remain are
monitored,
fed, and
treated
medically,
when needed,
by their
caregivers."
The Feral Cat Alliance educates and empowers the public to solve the homeless cat crisis in an effective and humane manner with its TNR + program. This non-profit organization provides a unique resource for concerned and responsible citizens. They have a hotline, trap depots and email where experienced volunteers assist individuals to help the cats in their backyards and neighborhoods with TNR. Because of FCA's efforts, over 30,000 cats have been spayed/neutered in three years. The Feral Cat Alliance is also working with city governments and shelters in their implementing TNR as official policy. They are creating a model of success in Los Angeles so they can help other cities nation-wide end their homeless cat crisis. FCA is volunteer-based and has great opportunities for people who care about cats and backyard wildlife.
