Tennessee State Route 840 is a planned outer-loop arounf Metro-Nashville. Original plans call for a complete loop around Metro-Nashville, similar to Interstate 285, around Metro-Atlanta. Once complete it is assumed to become Interstate 840, but no offical plans for that have been made. Tennessee State Route 840 currently exists as two seperate sections. Both section are part of the southern loop. One runs from Interstate 40, near Lebanon, southeast to U.S. Rt. 31/Tennessee State Route 6, near Thompson's Station. The other section is the shorter of the two. It goes from Interstate 40, near Burns, to Tennessee State Route 100, near Fairview. In October, 2003, the Tennessee Department of Transportation placed the plans for the northern loop on idefinate hold. Info on the two current sections are below. Eastern SectionWestern Section
