Truly a University of Tennessee Legend

TV_BOC Celebration Party with Bobby Majors & His Family.
Our Tennessee Valley Big Orange Crew meeting in November 2003 with Bobby Majors was very special. His style, warmth and charm was overwhelming and he was full of stories that everyone in the room could appreciate. He talked about his time playing for the Vols in Knoxville, his brother Johnny and gave credit to his current success and happiness to the faith which he discovered late in life. To summarize his years as a player, He is still ranked No. 1 on the UT season interceptions list with 10 in 1970 for 177 yards. He tops both the team career punt returns chart with 117 and the career punt return yardage list with 1163 and was named to the 100 Years of Volunteers All-Time Team in 1990.

We have photos of the meeting on the TV_BOC web site and those who had individual photos taken with Bobby can order them through Dave Canestrari (order through www.imagesouth.net)

Bobby was named All-America his senior season, and was honored by the University of Tennessee at the 2003 Mississippi State game as a "Legends of the Game." Bobby came to UT from Sewanee as the last of three brothers who played for the Vols, Johnny from 1954-56 and Bill from 1958-60. Not only did Bobby have 13 career interceptions for 236 yards for his career from 1969-71, he also had punt returns for scores against Kentucky (72 yards) and Alabama (71 yards), both in 1969.

He had a banner day on "Majors Family Day" at Neyland Stadium against Penn State in his home finale in 1971, with 82 yards in punt returns -- one for a score covering 44 yards -- and 113 yards on kickoff returns. Thus the Tennessee Valley Big Orange Crew gift to Bobby Majors and family, among other things, was a videotape of that 1971 game.

He is ranked No. 1 on the UT season interceptions list with 10 in 1970 for 177 yards. He tops both the team career punt returns chart with 117 and the career punt return yardage list with 1163 and was named to the 100 Years of Volunteers All-Time Team in 1990.

Bobby Lives in Chattanooga with his wife Michelle and their children and is owner of Kobax, an industrial chemical maintenance and janitorial supply company.

We were honored to have Bobby Major's here and it is our optimistic hope that he will accept another invitation to Huntsville, AL in the very near future.

From the TV_BOC to the Major's Family: You are Simply the BEST.

PS Bobby, I framed the number 44 orange and white jersey you gave me. Your special dedication on the jersey will always hang on my wall at home. - RH
