I got this sled at a rummage sale down by Detroit. The person I got the sled from had this sled and 2 other ones, but they were black so he decide to paint this one black also.
Other than the hood being paint the sled was in very good condition. One of the ski's was bent as you can see. I did have a hard time finding an original ski for it when I was restoring it. I rode the sled around here for a few years until I decided to restore it.
The only problems in the time that I rode it was a blown belt, a few plugs, fixed the recoiler rope, and the spring in the secondary broke. The 2 pictures above show how the sled looked when I started the restoration.
Well, I really didn't taken any pictures as I was tearing it down to the frame. Guess I was to involve and excited about doing it. : ) Once it was down to the frame the first stop was the car wash and get some parts ordered. I started sand blasting all the rear suspension parts first and once done primed, painted and shot some clear on them. For the rear suspension, I put new springs, bearings, kimplex gas shock and slides. I put yellow slides on as I think they give a little accent to the suspension. I also got a new Camoplast Challanger track from Royal Distributing in Ontario Canada. They have some of the best prices around, of course with the exchange rate.
A friend of mine and myself rebuild the motor. Upon tearing it down one of the pistons was scored. So I found a new set of NOS standard Wiseco pistons from a local Doo dealer and we put them in along with new seals and gaskets. I very glad that I have some great older Doo dealers around me and got alot of miscellaneous parts from them.
As of right now the sled is in it's new home.
