Makan
Place...the perfect place to come for hawker food when you need the right clue.
Bah
Chor Mee |
My
favorite lunch. The very well prepared fantastic concoction of
sambal chilli, vinegar and sauce is so mouth-watering. The
dried fish, mushrooms and sea asparagus are just so at the right
textual and taste that makes you always want to go back again for
subsequence rounds. Ask for extra ingredient ($4 for dry) and
I guarantee you'll knock yourself out and swear to come back for
more.
Last tried: Almost every Sat and Sun.

Chwee
Kuay |
It's
been a long time since I last come across such good Chwee Kuay.
The flour literally melts in your mouth! Besides, the
chai-poh was also very well done; tasty and juicy, with delicious
chilly too!! Selling 4 for $1.00 at Tiong Bahru Market.
Queue expected.

Tiong Bahru Market
|
Incidentally,
there are lots of good food in Tiong Bahru Market. Go
try all of them! |
The other place
where you can find good Chwee Kuay is in Redhill Market.
Almost similar to the one selling in Tiong Bahru, but personally I
felt the chai-poh is nicer in the latter.

Durian |
I
know, it's not really 'food' that you can find in Makan Place.
But if you really craze for durian, here's one place that you need
to check out. Balestier Rd, next to the temple. A little
expensive; but the durians are all garanteed - GOOD! The other
place is none other than Geylang.
Of course, if you
only want the reasonable best, go for the D24s.

Laksa |
Claypot
Laksa at it's best! - Fantastic Claypot Laksa at $2.50. Yummy
thick and steaming hot gravy with cockles and chicken slices (and if
you opt for no cockles, the cook with give you prawns). Stall
opens every day (Mon to Sun but only for the Lunch crowd). This is a
MUST try, especially those who get a chance to pop by CMPB once in a
while. Can expect long wait especially during lunch hours.

Rojak |
Best
Chinese Rojak I've ever tried. The secret, I guess lies with
the very thick and creamy 'hay-gou' and the very generous use of
taste tickling lime slices, ginger flower, mango slices, etc.
Queuing is a norm.

Won
Ton Mee |
Lavender
Food Court. Very delicious and tender mee.
Unfortunately, the won ton comes in little portion (2 for $3!?) but
the source is great. Worth trying; but not a must. Stall
mend by an old cantonese couple and sister in law. Always
seems to be shouting at each other for don't know what?

Yam
Cake |
Yummy!!
Yam cake that really melts in your mouth. Another one best
that I've ever tried. Stall mend by, I believe are four "cantonese
sisters" - good reason for that good yam cake. Queue is
long, but fast. Another must try if you adore yam cake.
Incidentally, they sell very good Mee Hoon and Ju Chiong Fun too.
