A.  Bailout

B.      Emergency Gear Extension

      If gear position indication does not match the position of the landing gear handle or the red (in transit) light is illuminated, proceed as follows:

      1. Pull LDG GEAR PWR and CONT circuit breakers

      2. Landing gear handle ------------      DOWN

      3. Engage the clutch knob

      4. Crank down the landing gear until it will not crank anymore

      5. Disengage the clutch knob

      - Do not operate the gear electrically with the clutch still engaged

      - Do not attempt to manually raise the gear

C.      Emergency Egress

1. Canopy ----------------------------      OPEN (Emergency Open, as required)

2. Harness ----------------------------      RELEASE

3. Parachute --------------------------      UNFASTENED

4. Evacuate Aircraft

D.  Starter Limits

      First two tries ----      40 seconds ON, 60 seconds OFF

      After second try --   40 seconds ON, 30 minutes OFF

E.   Abnormal Starts

      HOT START ----------------     ITT appears likely to exceed 925°C

      HUNG START -------------      N1 increase is halted

      NO START ------------------      No rise in ITT is evident within 10 seconds of selecting FTHR

1. Condition Lever -----------------      FUEL OFF

2. Ignition Switch -------------------  HOLD OFF (Starter continue engaged)           

3. Starter Switch --------------------      OFF (After 20 sec)                 

F.   Normal Idle Indications

      ITT --------     660°C

      N1 ---------     62 - 65%, as low as 60 % acceptable for flight

      Oil Temp -      10 - 99°C - Normal Idle, -40 Minimum for starts

      Oil Press -      65 - 80 psi - N1 above 75%, 40 psi Minimum - N1 below 75%

      Fuel Flow-      125 lbs/hr

H.   Brake Failure

1. Maintain directional control with rudder and the remaining brake. Use beta as necessary to aid deceleration.

If going into unprepared terrain is anticipated:

DEMONSTRATE ITEMS

A.  Taxi

- Maintain a controllable taxi speed

- Primarily use beta to control ground speed

- Steer with minimal use of brakes

- Call squadron base as you begin to taxi out of ramp area

- Call Ground prior to leaving ramp area

- Contact squadron base as you return to ramp area

- Switch back to Ground prior to parking

B.  Takeoff

1. Call tower for clearance

2. When crossing the hold short line, call for the line-up checklist

3. When aligned on the runway and cleared for takeoff, add power to 400 ft-lbs and check engine instruments.  Report “Instruments checked” over the ICS.

4. Select a reference point.  Position the stick in neutral.  Release the brakes.  Maintain directional control using rudder pressure.  Advance PCL to maximum allowable within three seconds.

5. At approximately 70 - 80 kts, smoothly apply back stick pressure and position the nose to takeoff attitude (cowl seam on the horizon).  Maintain this attitude and allow the aircraft to fly itself off the deck at 80 - 85 kts.

6. When a safe landing can no longer be made on the runway, check fuel caps for streaming fuel, report “Fuel caps secure,” raise the landing gear and report “Three up and locked.”

7. Set the 120 kt climbing attitude (cowl seam on the horizon). Climb out in accordance with course rules.  Retrim as necessary.

8. Perform cruise checklist.

9. Call Departure.

C.  Initial Climb to Altitude (ICA)

This procedure is to be accomplished every time you climb or descend more than 1,000 ft outside of the Class C airspace:

1. Turn to climb out heading

2. Check power 1015 ft-lbs (120 kts)

3. Begin climb

4. Check the area clear by commencing clearing turns.  Smoothly roll into a 15°AOB turn on the horizon.  Cross check AOB with attitude indicator.

5. Lead reversals using the 1/3 rule and smoothly roll into a 15°AOB turn in the opposite direction as you clear the area.

6. When 200 ft prior to your level off altitude, gradually lower the nose to level flight attitude and level off on altitude.

D.  Area FAM

Review the locations of the following airfields and landmarks:

- Highway 10, Highway 98, and Highway 59

- The Chicken Ranch

- Perdido Bay, Wolf Bay, Oyster Bay, Weeks Bay, and Mobile Bay

- Bronson, Saufley, Wolf, Barin, Foley, Jack Edwards, Fairhope, Silverhill, and Summerdale

- Point Clear and Fort Morgan

E.   Turn Pattern

1. Establish a cardinal heading (North, South, East, or West)

2. Clear the area.  Adjust power, attitude, and trim as necessary throughout maneuver.

     - Clear left 15°AOB, 30°heading change, lead reversal by 5°

     - Clear right 15°AOB, 30°heading change, lead reversal by 5°

     - Clear left 30°AOB, 90°heading change, lead reversal by 10°

     - Clear right 30°AOB, 90°heading change, lead reversal by 10°

     - Clear left 45°AOB, 180°heading change, lead reversal by 15°

     - Clear right 45°AOB, 180°heading change, lead reversal by 15°

3. Roll out on original cardinal heading and hold light forward stick pressure to prevent ballooning.

4. Reduce power to normal cruise setting (600 - 650 ft-lbs).  Reset attitude and retrim for straight and level flight.

F.   Level Speed Change

- A maneuver to go from Normal Cruise, to Downwind Configuration, to Landing Configuration, and then to Fast Cruise.

- 150 kts, 100 kts, 90 kts, 170 kts

- A good outside scan and proper trim are important

 

1. Transition from Normal Cruise to Downwind Configuration

     a. Reduce power to 300 ft-lbs

     b. Check airspeed below 150 kts, lower the landing gear

     c. Approaching 100 kts, add power to 500 - 550 ft-lbs to maintain airspeed

     d. Trim right and up

2. Perform the Landing Checklist down to the flaps

3. Transition from Downwind Configuration to Landing Configuration

     a. Reduce power by 100 ft-lbs to 400 - 450 ft-lbs

     b. Check airspeed below 120 kts, lower the flaps

     c. Approaching 90 kts, add power to 600 ft-lbs to maintain airspeed

     d. Trim right and up

e. Check flaps are down and report “Gear down, Flaps down, Landing Checklist complete”

4. Transition from Landing Configuration to Fast Cruise

     a. Advance power to 1015 ft-lbs

     b. Check airspeed below 120 kts, raise the landing gear and flaps

     c. Turn off the landing lights

     d. Approaching 170 kts, reduce power to 750 - 800 ft-lbs

            e. Trim left and down

G.   Power Off Stall

1. Configure

     - Appropriate Altitude

     - Normal Cruise - 150 kts, 600 - 650 ft-lbs

     - Clean Configuration - Gear and Flaps UP

2. Check

     - Perform STALL CHECKLIST and report it complete

3. Clear

     - 45°AOB for 180° of turn

4. Setup

- Once established in clearing turn, reduce power to 200 ft-lbs

     - Approaching 100 kts, set 100 kt glide attitude

     - Retrim

5. Commence

- After clearing turn, raise nose 12°-15° above normal cruise (place stacks on horizon)

- Hold this attitude until stall

6. Recover

     - Release back stick pressure

     - Use opposite rudder to stop rolling tendency

     - Roll wings level

     - Raise nose to resume 100 kt power-off attitude

7. Maneuver is complete when established in 100 kt power-off glide

      - The student will execute the start

      - Don’t forget to hack the clock and watch the lineman for any abnormal start warnings

E.   Straight and Level Flight

Flying straight and level flight

1. Maintain balanced flight.  Trim.

2. Set the nose position for straight and level by visually bisecting the windscreen with the horizon.  Cross-check the altimeter and VSI.  Trim.

3. Set the wing position for straight and level flight by setting the wingtips equally distant below the horizon.  Cross-check the RMI.  Trim.

4. Continue a working scan.  If an error is recognized, make the proper corrections.

5. If error on altitude is noted, stop the error by adjusting nose attitude.  Then, using coordinated power and stick pressure, adjust back to desired altitude and airspeed.  Trim.

6. If error is noted in heading, stop the drift by leveling the wings.  Turn back to the desired heading, never using a greater AOB than the number of degrees off heading.  Trim.

      Corrections to straight and level flight

Off airspeed, On altitude - Adjust power setting.  Trim.

Off airspeed, Off altitude - Reset level flight.  Correct by trading excess altitude or airspeed to return to desired altitude and airspeed.  Trim.

On airspeed, Off altitude - Ascend or descend as appropriate.  Trim.

F.   Constant Angle of Bank Turn (CABT)

1. Clear the area

2. Roll in estimated AOB on the horizon.  Cross check AOB on attitude gyro.  Add slight rudder in the direction of turn to maintain center ball.

3. Adjust the power and nose attitude as necessary and retrim for correcting altitude and airspeed.

4. Roll out of the turn on the desired heading using 1/3 rule and PAT (Power, Attitude, Trim) principle.

5. Reset straight and level flight.  Retrim.

G.  Basic Transitions

Normal/Fast Cruise to Climb

1. Power - Increase to 1015 ft-lbs

2. Attitude - Raise the nose placing the smokestacks on the horizon.  Commence clearing turns as appropriate.

3. Trim - Right and Up for the climb

4. Approach 120 kts, lower the nose to the 120 kt climb out attitude (cowl seam on the horizon).

5. Retrim

6. Maintain 1015 ft-lbs as you climb by advancing PCL.

Climb to Normal/Fast Cruise

1. 200 ft prior to level off altitude, lower the nose toward the level flight attitude as the aircraft accelerates and climbs.

2. Trim Left and Down.

3. Approaching normal/fast cruise airspeed, execute PAT principle.

Normal/Fast Cruise to Enroute Descent

1. Execute PAT principle:

     Power -----------  300 ft-lbs

     Attitude  --------  Nose Down

     Trim ------------  Left Rudder, Nose Up

2. Perform clearing turns/ICA if descending more than 1,000 ft.

Enroute Descent to Normal/Fast Cruise

1. 100 ft prior to level off altitude, execute PAT principle:

     Power -----------  Cruise

     Attitude  --------  Level Flight

     Trim ------------  Right Rudder, Nose Down
