FIC RECOMMENDATIONS
Law & Order (and its spawn)
All Through the Night, by Kyllikki. Kyl draws some great parallels between Claire's death and...well, just read the fic and marvel at kyl's brilliance.
The Child is the Father of the Man, by cirocco. Brief scenes from a few L&O characters' childhoods. Cirocco masterfully connects each little bit to canon.
Choices Made Series, by Cassatt. I admit, she had me a little skeptical when I first saw the pairing--I mean, Jack/Ed?--but the CM series intertwines a convoluted casefile with the sweet, loving relationship of Jack and Ed. And we all need a little sweetness and love in our lives now and then.
City Lights Lay Out Before Us, by Kyllikki. Eames. Goren. Roadtrip. But no E/G wuvvin'. Need I say more?
The Cold Light of Dawn, by jael. Because "sometimes, there are no reasons." And that's all the reason you should need. Jack/Claire types, watch out: there are lots of fics out there where Jack and Claire are a perfectly happy couple and it's all sweetness and light. This isn't one of those fics.
Eyes Forward, Shoulders Back, by Tahlia. Formica, the power of a leather skirt, and Alex/Bobby the way it needed to be from the very beginning. Put this way: if Tahlia were a musician and this fic were the song, every note she played would be right in tune.
A Law & Order Fic-Mas Carol, by jael. Insanely funny even outside of the holiday season.
A Needle In A Haystack, by VTerrice. More parody, CI flavor. And for those of you who didn't watch at the beginning? Yes. The show really was that bad.
Open Letter to Fanfic Writers, by cirocco. The characters fight back against the injustices dealt to them by the fanfic writers. Absolutely hysterical.
Scene and Not Heard, by Kyllikki. Opens with a bang and keeps that momentum going throughout the whole fic. Not your average Jack/Claire. Not at all.
For a bigger dose of Kyl, jael, and cirocco's fiction (and for kyl and jael's wickedly funny collaborations as Alisia D. Crede), go to their site, The Ham Sandwich.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
All the Way to Reno, by Luna. I mean, come on, it's Luna. Like explanation is needed. Delightfully understated angst of the Gil/Catherine variety.
Em Brunson's Fiction. All of it. Highlighting: Canada and Boxing the Compass. And if you're looking for a flavor of the dark-roast kind? Hell, with the self-explanatory title, is an extention of Canada, picking up at an important turning point in Canada and running in a totally different, insanely twisted direction. (After you finish with Em's CSI stuff, head over to her other stories in other fandoms, including Sports Night and The Sentinel.)
Castles on the Beach, by Cappuccino Girl. I'm not usually one for femslash, but this fic and all of Cappuccino Girl's other CSI femslash had me totally believing in Sara/Catherine. One of my absolute favorite CSI fics, by one of my absolute favorite WW and CSI authors. (If you get bored (and there's no reason you should!), I suggest you check out her Gil/Catherine fics, as well as her WW fics.)
Sports Night
Djibouti, by Caroline and Fox. It's just...there's a line in this story that makes me crack up and laugh insanely every time I even think about it. Go read it.
Flora and Fauna and Bob, by Julian Lee. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was Sorkin. Only ten times more well-written and funny.
Freon, by Julian Lee. Casey tangles with a future-predicting kitchen appliance. In the words of the author, "Complete and utter lunacy."
Gynecology, by Charlemagne. Through the course of which the men lead an assault on the kitchen and Danny gets declared an honorary woman.
Visual Aid, by Charlemagne. With the best Dan/Casey kiss ever. Period.
Weekend, by Raietta. I read this story about once every three months, because any more often and I'd break down sobbing. Danny and a weekend with Charlie.
You Get What You Need, by Cori Lannam. Separation, crisis, and lots of self-doubt. Danny and Casey learn that what they want isn't always what they need.
The West Wing
By My Cry, by L. Bright. A beautifully constructed AU set in the Civil War time. Manages to still maintain the unique Josh'n'Samness, even though there's over a hundred years' difference. This story made me sob--the words reach into your chest and wrench out your heart.
Dance, Then, Wherever You May Be, by Violet and Cinnamon. Sorkin tries. They succeed.
The Howling of Ducks, by Lyman's Might. Think of the best Leo characterization you've seen. Multiply it by one hundred. Now you're somewhere in the ballpark of "The Howling of Ducks"'s Leo, seen through Josh's eyes.
Landscape With the Fall of Icarus, by Julian Lee. I love understated angst, and this is just gorgeous. Josh/Leo has always been my guilty pleasure pairing.
Priya Deonarain's Fiction. Priya is one of the most multi-talented fanfic writers out there. Great Leo/Jed fics, ranging from the sweet and chaste to the...not so sweet and chaste. All of her other fics are wonderful, especially her Leo/Josh series. Priya takes risks and always comes out on the right side of things.
You and Me of the 10,000 Wars, by Luna. Like Sorkin, only thousands and thousands of times better.
If I were to rec all of the Sports Night and West Wing fics that I wanted to, this page would be longer than sanity allows for. Most of these fics can be found on sites linked to in the Links section. Go play around in the Our Boys and WWSlash archives; I'd rec every fic on Our Boys if I could.
Miscellaneous
X-Files
The Warfare of Perishing Beasts, by Kyllikki. Skinner/Doggett, set mid-DeadAlive. I can't really explain why this piece of fiction resonates so strongly with me--it's very bleak at most parts, but kyl tells the story the way it should be told.
Jukebox in a Nameless Bar, by Julian Lee. Skinner/Dogget, set post-Colonization. The scene given to us is haunting and disturbingly real. Julian hits every single character's personality and voice perfectly.
Quantum Leap
Let's Give 'Em Something to Talk About, by MJ. My favorite QL fic of all time. Al's voice and attitude is so totally dead on; there's not a false note in the bunch. We all know that it's completely plausible for Sam to get himself into a mess as weird as this one, and that Al, in his cocky way of doing things, would only screw it up more. All of MJ's other QL and XF stories rock just as much as this one--check out The Inexorable Sadness of Pencils (XF) and Running for Honor (QL). She writes Enterprise, too; I think I actually squealed aloud when I found that out.
Star Trek: Enterprise
The Labouchere Amendment, by Julian Lee. I could probably just save myself a lot of time and energy by linking straight to Julian's page and leaving it at that, but it's good to have specifics in life. And when Reed opens a conversation by talking about Victorian-era lesbians, well...Archer'd do well to remember that bit about specifics.
Dragnet
Like Eagles, Like Houseflies, Like Days, by Kyllikki. Neo-Dragnet slash. You know a fic's great when you've read it five times and still get the urge to read it again after every single episode you watch. Kyl is way too classy for this joint.
Good Omens
Living Arrangements, by afrai. Crowley/Aziraphale, baby. Because yes, Aziraphale is indeed gayer than a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide. And you gotta love a fic that makes you cry because you feel bad for a demon. All part of the ineffable plan.
Harry Potter
The Curious Vengeance of Draco Malfoy, by Halrloprillalar. Oh, the glory of a hurtin' Draco.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Better Than Tea, by afrai. Drunk!Ford and Resigned!Arthur. What fun! Don't forget to check out the sequel on her page, too.
The Sentinel
Storm Signs, by Legion. This story is a crossover between Quantum Leap and The Sentinel, and is incidentally the only Quantum Leap story I've ever encountered Sam written quite this way. It's beautiful, and marvelously long, and quite the happy-making story, once you get through it.
