Toby McKeehan, born on October 22, 1964, grew up in Virginia in the northern suburbs. As a child he was greatly influenced by rap music. He liked to listen to Sugarhill. Now he has a wife named Amanda and a three-year-old son named Truett Foster. His solo project goes back to the rap/hip-hop of the earlier years of DC Talk. When DC Talk went solo, Toby wanted to go back to hip-hop again. He sat down with Amanda and they prayed together. Toby wanted to make sure this was what God wanted him to do. It started to come together and everything fell in place. He came up with his solo album, "Momentum." Along with hip-hop, his music also has a little bit of rap, rock, pop, and R&B in it. One of his new songs, "Extreme Days," is more of a hardcore rap song and is played on the movie "Extreme Days." Another of his songs, "J Train," has Kirk Franklin on it. Kirk is Toby's friend and they had already wanted to do a song together for a while.
