Dear Ms. Kaysen,

My name is Amy Todd and I attend Schreiber High School in Port Washington I have just finished reading your breathtaking book Girl, Interrupted for my English expository writing class.

After seeing the movie Girl Interrupted which was one of my favorites I was very excited to read your book. Many people say that a movie is always very different than the book, and in this case I feel this is very true. I got a very different impression from you in the book; it gave me more of a personal sense of your story. In the way you developed the background, and actual events that occurred at the hospital.

Although I did enjoy the movie I felt that the book was much more real.  Your book was very difficult to put down; I really enjoyed the detail and emotion that you wrote. With all of the reading I began to have many questions such as what happened with your parents when you got out? How you felt as a person when you left compared to when you entered the hospital, did you reach all the goals that you wanted to reach? Do you ever feel yourself going back to how you were than? I would love to hear your answers because it was a fascinating story. It made me consider working with people who have mental illnesses. I have always loved being around people and have had a dream make an impression and help out just as the nurses did for you.  If you have an advice on how to get involved I would be thrilled to receive it.

Thank you so much for the experience of reading your book I learned a lot from it. I really appreciate the time you took to read my letter and hope to hear from you soon.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

                                                                                                Miss Amy Todd
