Brain is a snail. If you had trouble figuring that out, you may need to get out more. Exactly WHAT species of snail, I wouldn't like to hazard a guess. I'm sure there is a yellow bodied-red-shelled snail out there somewhere. Now, I have to admit, I like snails, I like Brian. He's my second favorite character out of the group, yes indeed. I once had a pet Giant African Land Snail, and learned that snails are fascinating creatures..no..really. For instance, did you know that snails are hermaphrodites? Yes, Brian is technically male AND female. Then again, I always addressed my snail, Ziggy, as 'he'. So there you go. The stock-motion version of Brian was cheerfull to the point that you wanted to dip him in salt just to make him stop smiling and singing. He was best friends (in his mind, anyway) with Dougal, and irritated the poor dog to death. And yet, I liked him, optimists are fun. The newer version has got a much more cynical edge to his character, making him even MORE fun. Brian may be a snail, but he's not always slow, in fact, in the stock-moion show, he could outrun (or slide) Train...which annoyed Train greatly. In the new movie, we have the fun of seeing him using his muscular foot (yes, that IS the term for a snails apendage) as a snowboard. If anyone has ever had a large snail crawl across their hand, they will agree with me that it is an odd experience, the muscles of the foot ripple, if you have ticklish hands, don't handle a snail, you have been warned. Though he had no real romantic interests in the stock-motion show, in the new movie, it is revealed that Brian has been desperately in love with Ermintrude for quite some time. That's what I like about the Magic Roundabout, anyone can fall in love, even snails with cows. Ermintrude, being the self-obessed bovine she is, hasn't actually noticed this, and all of Brian's attempts to tell her how he feels falls flat. Poor Brian. Brian loves Ermintrude to the point that he actually ENJOYS the unearthly screeching she calls 'singing', and voluntary listens to her. If THAT isn't love, I don't know WHAT is. On Dylan, Brian is at his most cynical. When they first met in the stock-motion show, he convinced Dylan that sleeping in Dougal's bed was okay. As soon as the rabbit had dropped off (in around 2.3 seconds), Brian gleefully went off to tell Dougal that he had a rabbit in his bed, thus creating a rift between rabbit and dog for all time. Brian also gets rather paranoid that Dylan steals his lettuce..but considering that's something rabbit's do often, you can't really blame Brian for that one. In the new movie, Brian sees Dylan as something as a annoying joke. I think the fact Dylan accidentally ejected him off a speeding train onto another speeding train carrying an evil overlord probably didn't help things much. Anyway, Brian doesn't hate Dylan, he's just extremely sucipicous of him. Rabbits sometimes eat snails, too. No, really, they do. I bet you diodn't know that, did you? More info on THAT fasinating subject will be in my wild rabbit section. |

Brian quotes "I am going about my lawfull buisness - spreading joy and delight" "I thought I was his only shelly friend..I was wrong" (On Dougal making friends with an oyster) "I can't help it if I have to carry my house everywhere with me, can I?" "I must confess, I'm a little confused" "I'm good at secrets. I'll only tell Dougal" "I shall telephone my lawyer. I will not be given away" "I think he's being sarcastic" "I hate rain!!" "You'd make a wonderfull star" "A great victory for snails. Snails are the greatest. The greatest!" "I prefer the term 'gliding'" (On how he moves) "It's so cold..I can't feel my limb" "Brian do this....Brian do that. Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir. Treat me like a slave, its a discrace. Where's my sugar, keep off my grass. Do it with a soft touch, but I always go crawling back". "Don't feel guilty just because it's all your fault...sorry, that didn't come out right" |
