A fairly easy, 2.5 mile hike upward through pine forests to a high open ridge. Provides nice views overlooking the North Shore and the mountain valleys. |
![]() Past the gate at the road's end there was a sign pointing in the direction of the trail. Two trails actually begin here. Ma'akua Ridge trail is straight ahead; Hau'ula Loop Trail is just beyond the sign on the right hand side. |
There was room for parking in front of this locked gate. A short walk down the paved road and the trail head was on the right. ![]() |

The stairways signal the descent back down toward sea level. The views of the ocean from up here are some of the best along the trail. |
Directions: |
Take H1 west bound. Get off at the Likilike exit and go through the mountains. Take Kahekili Highway west toward Laie. A few miles past Kahana Bay, turn left just past the 7-11 store onto Hauula Homestead Road. A small church also serves as a landmark. Turn right onto Maakua Homestead Road which will lead you right to the locked gate before the trail head. |
