AS health care professionals, we felt that we needed to respond to the letter to the editor "Too many rights may be dangerous" [Oct. 21] by Deborah Hall. The HIV virus cannot be spread by coughing or sneezing on food. HIV is contracted via blood exposure or sexual contact with an infected person. The HIV virus does not differentiate between being gay or heterosexual.
It is only through proper education about transmission of the virus that HIV can be

prevented. Quarantining individuals based on sexual orientation makes no sense, nor is it feasible. Let’s please teach our children the facts, not the myths about HIV.
