Tolerance is no virtue

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision on Cincinnati’s Issue 3, a Post letter writer tells Cincinnatians to be tolerant of homosexuals. A funny thing is happening nowadays. Freedom is being transmuted into "tolerance." This means things must not be said because it might "offend" someone.

Freedom begat tolerance and now tolerance is gobbling-up freedom. Take the gutter word "queer" - this word is more descriptive of the homosexual way of life than the approved word "gay." What’s "gay" about AIDS and an early, miserable death?

Christians who speak against homosexuals are branded bigots for the purpose of intimidating them into silence. Tolerance then becomes the foe of free speech, never mind freedom of religion.

As an example, the National Institute of Health forbids using the words "husband and wife." In their place the words "partner" or "domestic" partner must be used. You see, the words husband and wife are, yes, offensive to homosexuals.

It is now open season on Christians, who are insulted on the job, at the movies, watching TV, in newspapers and magazines, and having their children tell about what’s going on in sex-ed class.

Are we succumbing to the lowest gutter standards? Have we become too tolerant? In the name of tolerance we call pornography "adult entertainment." We call promiscuous teenagers "sexually active" and unborn babies "fetuses."

The definitive struggle in America is about morality.
