Belief in God does not make one a Christian

My Goddess gave birth to your god. Were the founding fathers Christian? Letter writer David R. Lippert thinks so because many of their writings contain the word "God" ["Founding fathers unashamed of religion," July 7]. He also suggests that universal adherence to Christian beliefs would improve this country.

To believe in God, who goes by many names on this planet, including Allah, does not make one a Christian. Thomas Jefferson, for example, was a Unitarian. Unitarians do not believe in a holy trinity, although most admire Jesus Christ as a great teacher.

The laws created by the founding fathers are what we should respect and abide by, not their personal choices and lives. One of those laws (the First Amendment to the Constitution) clearly states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
