The Brice Episodes

The Nuisance

Original air date: 3/6/76 (this was my thirteenth birthday. Probably doesn’t mean anything, but it’s interesting….)
Writer: Robert Hamilton

Director: Randolph Mantooth
Guest Cast: Gretchen Corbett, Carole Cook, James G. Richardson, Joan Shawlee, Coleen Gray, Joseph Perry.

John is the victim of a hit-and-run driver while the squad is out on a late night call. Roy must deal with his replacement, firefighter/paramedic Craig Brice, ‘the walking rulebook’, while Johnny deals with a cute physical therapist and a veteran nurse who treats the hospital like her own personal boot camp. The mandatory Big Structure Fire caps off the episode.

Brice listens to Roy lecture.

First appearance.

Rules of Order

Original air date 11/6/76
Writer: James G. Richardson
Director: Georg Fenady
Guest Cast: James G. Richardson, Larry Manetti, Bert Holland, Bob Belliveau (uncredited)

The paramedics rescue an injured man from a telephone pole. Johnny and Roy are asked to serve on the Paramedic Advisory Committee, but are put out when Brice insists on running the meetings strictly according to Roberts Rules and elects himself as chairman. Johnny and Roy rescue a climber from a tall building. Roy comes up with a way to bypass the committee rules legally despite Brice. (Clever dude, that Roy…..)
Notes: Real-life paramedic Bob Belliveau plays Brice’s partner ‘Bob Belliveau’ in this episode. It is a common misconception that Bellingham appears in this one, but the name ‘Belliveau’ is used quite clearly at least twice in the dialogue. Mr. Belliveau was the first ever paramedic trained in LA County.

A rare flustered moment. Thanks Roy. J

Bob Belliveau, tolerant partner and Henry’s buddy.

Limelight

Original air date: 3/26/77
Writer: James G. Richardson
Director: Christian I Nyby II
Guest Cast: James G. Richardson, William Bryant, Walter Barnes, Shannon Farnon, Jeannie Fitzsimmons, William Boyett.

Brice is on TV. Brice is in the paper. Brice has an idea for the tape review process. Johnny is climbing the walls. A group of rambunctious children drive their babysitter to distraction. During a warehouse fire, Brice becomes trapped and must be rescued.
Notes: This episode features the first on-screen appearance of Bob ‘The Animal’ Bellingham. At this point, he and Brice are apparently working as a team out of Station 16

No glasses!

Bob Bellingham, AKA ‘The Animal’. The biggest slob in the department.
