Todd's Wheel of Time FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about Robert Jordan
and the Wheel of Time

Who is Robert Jordan?

Born as James Oliver Rigney, Jr., Mr. Jordan has not only written the books in the Wheel of Time series, but he has also produced a few novels set in the universe of Conan the Barbarian.  He has also written a series of books set during the American Revolution written under the name of Reagan O'Neill.  He has published theater criticism under different pseudonyms, but it is as Robert Jordan that he is most widely known.

What is the Wheel of Time?
The first book in the Wheel of Time series,
The Eye of the World, was published in 1990.  Since then, the books in the Wheel of Time series have gone on to become one of the most popular epic fantasy series in the world.  Often compared to the writing of J. R. R. Tolkien, Jordan's work is often detailed and well-crafted.  The most recent book, Winter's Heart, debuted at number one on the New York Times Bestseller list, as well as countless other such lists.

How many books will there be?
There are currently nine books in the Wheel of Time series, with no apparent end in sight.  With each new interview, Mr. Jordan insists that it will take at least three more books to complete the series, and he's been saying that since the very beginning.  I would imagine that to complete it in any less than four would be impossible.

What is the title of the next book, and when will it be out?
As of yet, there is no information about the title of volume #10, and I wouldn't count on any such announcement until
at least the spring of 2002.  If he continues writing apace, the next volume should be published in late October/early November of 2002.

Will there be a movie/mini-series?
So far there are no plans to turn
The Eye of the World into a feature-length film.  In fact, Jordan has said that it would be nearly impossible to do so.  NBC did however obtain the rights to turn it into a mini-series, and there is a strong possibility that if a live-action version of the book were to come about, a mini-series would be the most likely option.
However, according to the most recent news bits, it seems that Eye has been put on the back burner by NBC, so the chance of it actually reaching the screen seem unlikely.
