Aginor
What We Know of Aginor
name: Ishar Morrad Chuain
occupation: biological scientist
It was said that Ishar understood the "most basic structure of things" better than any other scientist in his time, but he was disciplined many times for his unauthorized work on animals.
After he turned to the Dark One, he held no field-commands and never served as a governor during the War of the Shadow. Instead, he continued his experiments, which resulted in the creation of the shadowspawn: Trollocs, Draghkar, Gholam, jumara, etc.
When he was sealed inside the Bore, he was caught just beneath its surface, and was thus one of the first to emerge in the present time. However, due to his proximity to the surface, his body suffered the ravages of time, although not to the same extent as Balthamel.
He was killed by Rand al'Thor near the Eye of the World.
Clues from the Text
[TEotW: 50, Meeting at the Eye, 628]
[He] was older than old... The skin of his face was like crazed parchment drawn tight over a skull, then pulled tighter still. Wispy tufts of brittle hair stood at odd placed on his scabrous scalp. His ears were withered bits like scraps of ancient leather; his eyes sunken, peering out of his head as if from the ends of tunnels.
...his yellowed teeth had the look of fangs.
The Chosen Speak
[TEotW: 50, Meeting at the Eye, 628]
"I was too close to this world in my captivity, I and Balthamel, too close to the grinding of the Wheel, but soon the Great Lord of the Dark will be free and give us new flesh, and the world will be ours once more."
--Aginor
[LoC: 23, To Understand a Message, 347]
She had had an unpleasant, in fact almost fatal, experience with one of Aginor's creations. The man had been brilliant in his way, but mad. None but a madman would have made the Gholam.
