Personally, I'm not quite in favor of this statement. It's true that our parents may be the first people we saw when we were born and the most inmate people we've known and loved. We grow under their influences and instructions. They are, in some sense, our guides and teachers. However, we can't say that they are our best teachers.

What we mean by "teachers" are those people who are our guides in acquiring knowledge in different areas of study and those who teach us to be physically and mentally healthy so as to be prepared for making ourselves useful to the society we live in. Some parents may do that due to their own good academic background and successful experiences that they would like to share with their children. Nevertheless most of the parents are strong in certain respects. They can do what the teachers do, but they may not be the best teachers because of their limitations. Besides, we sometimes hear that there are irresponsible parents who never care about their children's academic performance in schools but drink and gamble and even commit crimes. How can they be their children's best teachers.

All in all, I disgree with the statement and hold that parents may and should be their children's teachers, but they may not necessary be their best teachers.
