It is important for us to learn things both from reading and doing it ourselves, for they have strengths or advantages in different ways. I think that learning through actual experience, as we will have better understanding of things out of it. Moreover, we tend to remember what we have done on our own in comparison to what we read. However, the importance of the reading should not also be neglected, because it also has some advantages over the actual experience.

The first factor that makes the actual experience superior to the reading books is that we can learn things more accurately and closely to the real thing through experiencing on our own. When we actually do things or, look at, smell, taste or touch the real objects, you can learn what exactly it is like on your own. On the other hand, when you just read it in the books, you can imagine what it is, but this is only a guess and is not the same as the real thing. Authors of the books, at best, can describe about the things, but there is no way that they can describe everything with worlds or get rid of personal bias when they write. To take an example for cooking, you may obtain some ideas of how you do it reading from a book, but you will now know what exactly you do, how it feels when you cook or how it tastes until you actually cook the dish. This indicates that actual experience will provide us with better understanding.

Another reason actual experience is better than reading a book can be seen in terms of memory. It is likely that we can memorise or remember what we actually have done better than what we have read in somewhere. When we actually do things, you move your body or use eyes etc to learn about the objects. Additionally, you have to think what you should do and how you can do better and more effectively when you actually experience something. However, when we read, we experience is only an indirect one and imaginary, thou, we are more likely to forget them.

Despite this importance of direct experience, it is crucial for us to read books to learn things, because the books can provide us with knowledge that we cannot otherwise ever experience ourselves. For some subjects, such as universe, it is unlikely with the current level of technology that we as ordinary citizens of the earth can actually go to the space or any other planets to learn about them unless we try hard and become an astronaut. In this case, if we want t learn them, we have no choice but read books to gain knowledge on it. For another thing, we can learn anything in past only from reading. There is no way that we can actually see or touch, for example, dinosaurs. This indicates that the usefulness of the books that provide with us information in something what we cannot actually experience.

In conclusion, yet, it is believed that actual experience can overweigh the reading books, which is due to the fact that we can have better understanding of the subjects and we can remember them better through the actual experience. Although the books can plays its role better when we want to study something we can ever experience ourselves, the books can give us only limited information. We read books on the subjects because itfs not simply for us to experience it, which is otherwise better to do it ourselves. Therefore it would be the best to experience ourselves if available.
