<< In my opinion, the most important quality of a good neighbor is not making loud noises. I must admitt that in this point of view, I was not a good neighbor. When I started learning English three years ago, I practiced pronounciation every night. To improve my speaking ability, I have read my English textbook loudly every night. Then, one day in my post, there was one mail that said don't make loud noises. I was very shocked. Because I didn't think my voice could be heared by my neighbors. And also, I feel very sorry for making such loud noises and annoying one of my neighbors. The next day, I went to music instrument shop and asked a salesperson how could I shut my noises from my house. To solve this problem, I bought one small room that could contain only one person or so. That room was very expensive (about 5,000 dollars), but I bought it. Because I did not want to stop my practice and at the same time I did not want to annoy my neighbors. Now I practice speaking English every night in that box. Though that box was so expensive and you may feel strange about my behavior, but I believe my choice was not wrong. In fact, using this small room, I can practice speaking English very comfortably every night. The next thing I think important for neighbors is to be able to hello every day. As a resident of a students' apartment, I usually say nothing to my neighbor. And all of us take that granted not say anything when we meet. I doubted this custom and I asked my friends how it is in their apartments. They said they also say anything when they meet. So now I also take it granted not saying hello when we meet. But I think though we don't know each other very well, we know our faces as neighbors. So I feel very sorry for not saying hello when we meet. And also I don't like such a Japanese custom. We must be more social creatures. So I think the most important qualities for neighbors are not making loud noisies but saying hello when we meet. That means we live together at a comfortable distance. I want to be a desirable neighbor, so I live that way as a neighbor.
