We live in the present world and it is quite different from the past world in the respects of the life style, the people's values, and so on.  Some might think, therefore, there is nothing we can learn from the past thing.  However, it seems to be wrong to me.   It is because past experience is useful for us to know what we need to care for successful result and learning about the past itself is useful for cultivating our knowledge.

We can learn from our past failure. When we analyze the cause of our past failure, a kind of past event, we notice our weak points which invite bad result.  Then, we can improve the point not to repeat the failures.  For instance, when practicing piano, we have some phrases which we frequently touch miss keys.  By checking these point and repeating to perform them more and more until we can play without miss touch, we can make the perfect performance.   As this example shows clearly, the past mistake tells us our weak point which make us notice the key of improving.

History also deepens our knowledge about everything.  Historical knowledge is for instance, very useful to understand literature works.   There are lots of masterpieces which has different historical background from ours.  One of the wonderful works, "The East Of Eden" has theme of peasants' poverty in 1930s.  We really understand the sorrow
of characters without knowledge of the situation of the era.   Historical knowledge help readers to taste the fascination of artistic works.

With the useful things, which we have with the knowledge of past, I cannot agree with the idea that learning about past has no value for us.
