When I was a junior or senior high school student, my teachers usually said that fine clothes alone do not make the man. I partially agree with the idea. It is certain that all the people wearing beautiful clothes are kind. However I think that people's external appearance gives us crutial hints to judge their characters from my experience.

People usually chose their everyday clothes by their preference. For instance, Those who like sports and always do sports activities, like my brother and his friends, usually wear causal clothes such as T-shats or jeans, which are suitable for these activity. Girls who are interested in the latest fashion, usually wear designers' clothes which some fashion magazine recommends. Now in Japan, expensive brand items such as Gucci bags are prevalent especially among young ladies. Therefore, such girls who are conscious of trend, usually have such expensive bags. From these observation, I think that people's clothes shows their preference and this is one of the important information for others to guess their character and preference. In fact, when I chose birthday present for my friends, I take into consideration of their daily clothes and chose suitable goods for their preference.

External appearance, especially clothes also show the owner's common sense. We have to chose clothes depend on TPO, time, place, and occasion. I think that if a person's clothes is not suitable for TPO, we can judge that he/she lacks of knowledge of common sense, or is such a selfish person that they never care about others, who might be confused to see his/her unsuitable clothes. In the situation, however high quality clothes he/ she wears, this is just a unpleasant costume.

In this way, clothes reflects their owner's preference, character, and social sense and it is crutial information to judge about what he/she is, Therefore, I cannot agree completely the idea that we should not judge others by their clothes.
