| Some people are always in a hurry to go places and get things done. Other people prefer to take their time and live life at a slower pace. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. |
| 22/M/Japan>>> University Student>>> TOEFL CBT 267 (5.0) I prefer to do things at a slow pace. In my university, we often do some science experiments in a small group. Each group has 5 or 6 students, and if the group finishes an experiment, they can go home. So some of my classmates want to do the experiment earlier than other groups and try to go home quickly. I don't like that, because in such cases, we must do our experiments in a very uncomfortable state. Some of them tend to go home early because they have some part time jobs. Most sutdents in my class have some part time jobs, and most of them do a house teacher as their job. "House Teacher" is a tutor who teaches one high school or junior high school student at the student's home. This job is very popular between us, though I don't do the job, because we can earn approximately 3,000 yen per hour, that is, about 30 U.S. dollars. And some of my classmates tend to go home earlier because they just don't like their experiments. You may feel that as strange, because you may expect that we entered the University to study and to do experiments. But I don't think it is not necessary true. I mean, all the medical students don't good at doing scientific experiments. I think that can true of all kinds of jobs. For example, are all the mathematics teachers good at teaching mathematics? I don't think so. Some of them might poor at teaching mathematics. So I think that it is very natural for some of our classmates not to love doing experiments and tend to go home earlier. But I love doing things slowly. Because I believe that if we do things quickly in a hurry state, the result does not change so much. For example, some people tend to drive a car in a very high speed. Some of them drive their car at 150 km/hour, while I drive my car at 120 km/hour. You may think that it is very slow if you live in a country with a vast land. But in my country, we usually drive a car at 120 km/hour or more at a highway. So it is unnatural to drive a car at 150 km/hour and for most of us, such a car seems to be in a very hurry state. But imagine the result of that, if we want to go reach some place which are 60 kilometers away, a 150 km/hour car reaches the place in 24 minutes. And a car at 120 km/hour reaches there in 30 minutes. So the difference is only 6 minutes. For only the 6 minutes, why do we have to take a risk to cause a car accident or to increase our heart rate? I don't want to take such a risk. So I think it is very comfortable to live life at a lower speed, because the result does not differ so much. |
