| Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most experiences in our lives that seemed difficult at the time become valuable lessons for the future. Use reasons and examples to support our answer. |
| 22/M/Japan>>> TOEFL CBT 267 (5.0)>>> University Student I agree with the statement and I think most people will agree with the statement. I think so because most people know from their experience that difficulties in their lives finally lead to some success in the future. In my country, we have one proverb about that, "Failure is the source of the success", that means "Failure leads to success in some day". We often have some dreams. For example, I want to be a surgeon and do my work in a foreign country. To achive such a goal, I make some efforts everyday. In addition to my everyday's school work, I practice English for 2 hours a day. This is very hard for me, and sometimes I want to run away from the reality. Sometimes I want to run away to some Southern Islands, and spend some time with beautiful tropical girls. But I know the reality, how can I afford to have such a wonderful life? I am born in a normal family, so I don't have much money to spend on such a life. But I think it is important to change the difficulties to some enjoyable things. So when I practice my English, what I keep in mind is that I don't do what I don't want to do. For example, I don't like to memorize lots of English words just by itself. In my country, many English learners have some "English words book". By using such a book, learners can memorize many words, but I don't like the book because I don't good at memorizing. Instead, I practice my English study in other ways. For example, I listen to the radio English conversation program everyday. That program is offered by NHK, most major broadcasting center in my country. The text of NHK is very great, and I can enjoy learning English by using that. It is also important for me to be physically strong, because the work of a surgeon is very hard. Sometimes they must do their surgery for 10 hours long. To do such a tough job, I think surgeons must have a healthy and strong body. In my university, we haev many sports circles, and most of the students add to some clubs. But I don't join in any clubs, because I must study English everyday, so I don't have times to do such activities. To compensate for that, I, by myself, do some exercises every weekend. The training I decide to do is very tough, I do "push up" 200 times in 20 minutes, and after that, I train my rectus abdominis muscle for 5 mitutes or so. By doing such training on Saturday and Sunday night every week, I maintain my physical strengh. On top of that, I am running to my university every morning. So I do many difficulties in my daily lives, but I believe this will lead to some success in my near future. |
