I think taking classes in many subjects is better. In my country, many universities require their students to take various classes for the first two years. After that, most students specialize in one subject. And recently, some people in my country begin to say that the first two years are not necessary for students. They think that students must specialize in one subject from the beginning.
In my country, many students don't study for the first two years. We usually participate in one circle or club, and we spend much time for the sport activity or something. If we, students, spend our first two years for such an club activity, there might not be a problem. But some of us don't attend any club, and do especially nothing but drinking. Those students don't study or do club activities because they don't think both of them are meaningful for their future. They want to do something that lead to their future job. For such students, it might be better to specialize in one subject from the beginning.
On the other hand, many people in my country think that, students still learn variety of subjects during their first two years. And I agree with them. They say that students must get variety of knowledge whatever job they might do in the future. They think that the broad knowledge students aquired while they are in college or university would lead to their creativity in their future jobs. If a student does not learn except for one subject, the student might not understand other things in this society. On top of that, they believe that learning variety of subjects would harvest a student's personality. I agree with all of their statement. But I think there are more of that. I mean, students don't have to require something for the first two years. That is, students can learn anything they are interested in during the two years. For example, I didn't required anything for the first two years in my university. And that enabled me to study English to the full. So though I didn't good at English when I was a high school student, I could improve my English ability during the two years.
So I think students should take many classes and should not specialize in one subject from the beginning. But I think they can at the same time, choose the many subjects they want to learn.
