Many students have to live with classmates while going to school or university. What are some of the important qualities of a good roommate? Use specific reasons and examples to explain why these qualities are important. 22/F/Japan >> TOEFL CBT 223/5.0 I plan to take Master of Arts in foreign college
or university in the future and therefore I will share apartment or dormitory
room with other students after entering the institution. Considering
my experience as undergraduate student living in dormitory and purpose of
learning at foreign university, I would like to choose my roommates these
following points.
The most important point is to prevent myself from being disturbed by noise. If my roommates are too selfish not to care about others and make noise, I will not share room with the person. Noise disturb students' concentration on studying. In fact, when I spent two years in a dormitory near my university, even piano which students majoring in music practiced prevented students from studying, although piano was played in special sound-proof room, out of students own rooms. If only they don't listen to music in large volume during my studying, I do not care. But I cannot share room with selfish students not to care of others' irritation. Plus, I want to share with a foreigner whose native
language is either English or Spanish, my second foreign language.
Firstly, I want to improve my English or Spanish from the conversation
with my roommates and know well about their native countries.
Secondly, living with a foreigner can be a precious experience for me that as a postgraduate student, would learn translation between English and Japanese. It is because translator needs to understand deeply not only the culture of English speaking countries but also other foreign countries. Non native English speakers also write or speak English as an international language. Therefore touching directly foreigners' culture by living foreign roommates are very useful for me. |
