It appears that artists and scientists contribute to society in different ways, and that both of their contributions are extremely important to achieve well beings of humans. The question is which one of them is greater than another. This is an extremely controversial issue since both of them are somehow essential for the good of human beings. However, it would be arguable that scientists play more important role rather than the other. Although it may be said that individuals need work of artists to enjoy their lives and to release their stresses in order to have healthy lives, the role of the scientists seems to overweigh that of artists. This is because scientists help to provide the human beings with understandings of nature, which leads to invention of new technologies, and which improve health and protection from natural hazards. Another reason is that this sophisticated study on the nature can only be undertaken by the scientists.

The contributions of scientists are extremely important, as their research leads not only to material enrichment of lives of individuals but also to greater protection from health risks, natural disasters and such. The research practiced by scientists such as physician, biologists, geologists and chemists provide greater insights of how the world and nature work. This knowledge can then be a basis to invent new technologies and then improve them, with which individuals can make their lives easier and enrich their lives in this way. Moreover, the knowledge can secure their lives in terms of health and protection from natural hazards. In the first sense, scientific knowledge on medicine and human bodies would lead to improvement in medicine thus in health of human beings. In the second sense, knowledge on weather and earthquakes to a less extent can be used to predict them so that the human beings can be prepared or evacuate before the actual hazards occur. All of these contributions of scientists mentioned above seem crucial to ensure healthy and secure lives of individuals.

These contributions of scientists to perform researches and to generate knowledge appear to be possible only by scientists, which will make the role of the scientists even more important. It obviously needs highly specialized and sophisticated knowledge and skills to perform such researches in appropriate ways to obtain accurate results. It is also difficult to interpret the results obtained correctly. Scientific researches and interpretations of their results must be done in appropriate ways in a careful manners by trained and educated specialists, since inaccurate knowledge and inappropriate interpretation and use of knowledge cause adverse influence on the world. These things mentioned above suggests that the contributions of scientists can only be undertaken by scientist, hence that they contribute more greatly to society than artists.

It is sometimes argued that the artists contribute to society to a greater extent than the scientists, since arts helps human beings enjoy their lives. It appears that almost all individuals enjoy work of artists in such forms as music and paintings, which is a fundamental need of humans, and which is an important part of their daily lives. Furthermore, it is said that lives without this enjoyment may be boring and miserable. These artists may also help individuals to release their stresses and to forget the real word for a short while, which can make their lives healthier. For instance, it is often heard that some people listen to music whenever they are upset and discourage so as to keep their mind healthy. On the basis of these considerations, it may be said that artists have greater contributions to society, Yet, it would seem that the role of scientists are greater than the artists because scientific research can only be carried out by the scientists, while people can enjoy arts without artists. This is possible because, even without artists, it is possible for human beings to compose music, draw, paint and such, which can also bring them enough enjoyment to have healthy lives, though it may be less than what the artists can bring them.

In conclusion, the contributions of scientists to society are greater than that of artists. This is due to the fact that the science can help not only to enrich the lives of individuals but also to improve health and security, and that this is only possible in the presence of the scientists. It may be argued that artists play more significant roles; nonetheless this argument seems weak, as it is possible for people to take over their roles and do it themselves alternatively.
