I would prefer to live in a university dormitory, if I had a choice between dormitories and apartments in the community. This is because I can spend more time on study, and because I can get to know more people and socialize with other students. Some may say that they prefer to live in apartments, since they can have quieter environment and since it is less costly to do so. Yet, the advantages of the dormitories override those of apartments.

First advantage of living in the dormitories is that students are able to spend more time, where food and other services such as cleaning are usually provided. This saves them time to do all the household work, which enables them to concentrate only on study. It appears tiring and hard for students to do all the household work such as cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and so forth that are highly time consuming, when they are busy studying. This is the case especially when they have many examinations and assignments in a short period of time. In the dormitories, they don't have to be bothered to do these things, and thus can focus only on study, whenever it is necessary to do so.

Second advantage of staying in dormitories is that students can get to know other students there. The dormitories are ideal places to make friends since students who study at the same universities and with whom they share common goals of some types. This is an important part of university life, as socialization with others provides students with opportunities to learn different viewpoints and way of thinking, which then provides better insights of the wider world. Moreover, it is more convenient for students to study together and teach each other, as they stay in the same places.

A final advantage of living in dormitories involves an issue of security. It seems to be safer to live in dormitories, where the security services are more likely to be provided. It is often the case that some security staffs or tutors who can deal with emergencies stay in the dormitories 24 hours a day in case robbery, fire, or sudden health problems occur. Furthermore, there are other students in the dormitories all the time and they can offer helps when necessary.

It is sometimes said that it is better to live in apartments near university, saying that they have greater advantages. Firstly, they say that it is less costly to live outside the dormitories, which is usually true. Secondly, it may be thought that they can have more quite surroundings for study rather than in dormitories, which is also true in many cases. Yet, it is thought that the advantages of living in dormitories are greater. As for the cost, it may happen that students stay in the apartments have to pay the electricity, gas and all other bills, and that they eat out frequently. Students in apartments, then, may end up spending the same or even more amount of money than those live in dormitories. In regard to quite surroundings in apartments, however, students in dormitories can learn to deal with the less quiet surroundings by studying in libraries and finding quiet places in dormitories. Additionally, they can also improve their environment through talking to neighbours.

In conclusion, I think it is better to live in dormitories rather than in apartments. Although the apartments are lee costly and they may provide quieter environment for study, the advantages of dormitories overweigh those of apartments. This is due to the fact that dormitories can offer students household services to save time for study, greater opportunities to socialize with other students, and security services.
