<< There are more people learn at university or college
than ever before thanks to the improvement of living and educational
standard. Especially in Japan, almost all the people receive
higher education; more than 80% of junior high school students go on senior high
school and about 50 % of senior high school students enter college, comunity
college, or professional school. Therefore some people might say all
the people should receive higher education. However, I do not agree with
the idea. Let me explain my reasons for the disagreement.
First and foremost, I believe that people should
acquire essential enough knowledge to lead a normal life by educational
chance that government gives the nation, But this is quite different from
higher education. This is called primal education and in my country
we are obligated to learn primal knowledge and skills to lead a fundamental life
like native and first foreign language, calculation at primary and junior high
school. Therefore without receiving higher education, we can live as an
adult person.
Secondly, all the students have interests to academic
things that we would learn at college or something. They want to acquire
certain technique to be a professional artisan like craftsman or cook, who must
want to spend learning specific skills in a factory instead of studying in front
of black board. Therefore, we should choose what and where we learn
depending on the way of our favorite life.
Last but not least, in Japan, almost all the
people who have strong motive to receive higher education can go to college or
university. Several kinds of scholarship are available and even if we lack
of GDP a little bit, committee of some scholarships prepare loan with law
interest rate. After graduation, we can return it with long
term. If we cannot go to college in day time, some institution
prepare class at night so people can learn after working.
In this way, what students are demanded at
college or university is their enthusiasm; financial and punctual problems are
solved by scholarships or something. Without interests to much more
academic and specific subjects, students cannot acquire complicated and
demanding knowledge nor their favorite skills. Therefore I don't agree
with the idea that everyone should receive higher education.
