Different students have different favorite subjects.  Some students like history or literature better.  Others prefer studying Physics or mathematics.  Although many of students, especially senior high school students want to study only their favorite or necessary subjects for passing entrance examination.  Despite their preference, I think that students should study both literature, history and mathmatics or something logical staff.   It is because both of subjects are important for students.

Some people might think history or literature is more important, pointing out that we use the knowledge of history or literature more frequently than science or mathematics.  In some sence, I think it is true. Without reading ability, which is supposed to be build up though literature class, we could not understand leaflet or any textbooks to learn other things.  Comprehensive knowledge about world or national history is very useful for us to understand or analyze the present situaion around the world; we can consider the cause of waging war more deeply on the historical point of view.  I think it important for us to have own opinion about our surronding situation both inside and outside of the our country.

However, the knowledge of mathematics and science is also useful in our daily life.  If we can calculate quickly, it is very useful in shopping or calculating the cost of dishes per one person in going to restaurant with others. Science knowledge make more sophsticated science program interesting and will increase our entertainment.  We might be more interested in environmental protection since the our broad scientific knowledge about the cause and effect of deforestation, greenhouse effect, and ozone depletion.  We cannot realize aggravation of environment at the global revel and many of us tend to forget its seriousness from our daily life.  However, such problems are urgent so that heightening our consciousness toward them are necessary to promote environmental protection.

In this way, history or literature might be more closely connected with our daily life.  However, science or mathematics also gives us necessary knowledge.  Therefore, I disagree with the idea that students should learn history and literature rather than science or mathematics.
