<< It is thought that a research centre for business should be developed in Japan, my country, if a university is to establish one. Although some say they should develop one for agriculture, which is important in terms of food issues, business research seems to be demanded to a greater extent. This is due to the fact that Japan is more likely to be successful in business that relates to service and manufacturing sectors. The new research centre should be developed in Japan, for this increases possibility that leads to a greater economic profit and growth in my country. The centre will help to improve the business efficiency and operation of manufacturing and service sectors, identifying characteristics, strengths and weaknesses of the business in Japan and establish and propose some plans to improve them. This is extremely important in such country as Japan, whose comparative advantage has already shifted to the service sectors. That is, Japan cannot produce agricultural good at world competitive price anymore because of high labour costs, so we better off if we make efforts in improving the manufacturing and services sectors. This is due to the fact that comparative advantage is not in manufacturing sectors because of high labour cost and land. Furthermore, Japan is a small country with huge population, thus there is not enough land to cultivate to create profit in comparison to large or less developed countries. It seems more effective for Japan to improve its business sector so that they can have better trade that can benefit the country. Despite the importance of improvement in business sector, some opponents of this may argue that a new agricultural research centre should be established because improvement in agriculture sector ensure that Japan will not run out o food. In Japan, though we can consume more than enough food, does not produce food that are needed its population. This leads to a fear that we can run out of food when we have problems with food exporting countries. Thus, some say that we should improve our technology to produce more food effectively so that we can be self-sufficient in terms of food. However, the issues of food seem to lie on the scarce land and declining status of farmers. In Japan, land is extremely scarce resource and there are not many spaces to cultivate because of the high population density, though she is rich in soils and water. There is also pressure on farmers to sale their lands so that new houses can be built there. Under this circumstance, even if we could improve agricultural technology and such, we cannot really expand the sector. Moreover, farmers are increasingly leaving farming sectors, because the government decreases its expenditure on agriculture and support for the farmers, which means that the farmers cannot ensure their income. This phenomena leads to a consideration that even if agricultural, technology is improved, the agriculture in Japan will not expand thus the food issue cannot be solved. She can obtain food, more realistically, improve its business sector to obtain enough income and amicable relationship with other countries so that she can import food Japan does not need new agricultural research centre, because she cannot expand its agricultural sector, even though the technology is improve in this sector. In conclusion, it can be said that a business research centre should be established by the university because Japan would better off if she improves the business sector where she has comparative advantage. It may be said Japan should have a new research centre for agriculture because Japan should be self-sufficient in terms of food. However, improvement in agriculture itself did not solve many problems, because she is incapable of expanding agriculture sector, even with new technology.
